I really love Harry Potter. I never reread books. Why waist the time when their are so many other amazing unread literature out their? And I know the storyline by heart (not quite like my cousin Lyndsey, but I'm still a whiz). Is it really gripping enough to want to read again and again? In all honesty, probably not. But the reason I keep going back to it isn't because of the storyline. It is because it has this magical capability of bringing me right back to when I was 12 years old, growing up with Harry Potter and his friends. It reminds me of living in my old house reading in the living room with the big window snuggled up on the couch while my mom is making making dinner. Or standing in line at Barnes and Noble in the middle of the night anxiously anticipating getting the next copy. Or waiting for the movie to start at midnight at the Gateway watching all of the crazy people dressed up as characters with my family. The memories go on and on, but each and every one of them is the essence of childhood. And I love it, and really miss it. So THAT is why I read Harry Potter over, and over, and over again.

ME TOO! I haven't talked myself into ready them over again yet recently, but I can see it happening soon. what I am really excited for though is reading them to Ellie. I can see her and I having some late nights because we just don't want to stop. I really can't wait.
ReplyDeletethis makes me want to re-read those books this summer:) and that quote from Fred and George's joke shop window just had me laughing so hard! their humor cannot be beat!
ReplyDeleteOh, the magic of Harry. I love him as well, and have great memories of the midnight showings. How often are you out with your kids in the middle of the night!?! So fun . . . even if I couldn't stay awake for the whole movie. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Harry Potter so much. My kids have just recently discovered how great the books are. Miss you Em!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I think of Harry Potter, I think of the many hours you spent reading those books to Lauren. I loved the thought of that. Thanks for the post. Maybe some day I will actually read those books, or at least listen to them. I feel like I am the only person in the world who hasn't read Harry Potter.
